Join the music program

Step 1. Attend the Music information night (21/11/18) and read the handbook.

Step 2. Complete the Expression of Interest Form

Step 3. The Music Committee will advise you, via email, of which instrument your child has been selected for before the end of week one Term 1, 2019.

Step 4. If you have requested to hire an instrument, you will be notified by email, as to whether your hire request has been successful. You will then be required to pay the rental bond and return a completed indemnity form. Once the bond payment and indemnity form have been received, instruments will be issued to students towards the beginning of Term 1. If we do not have your instrument for hire, we will direct you to a hiring service.

Step 5.  You will receive an email with details of a potential music tutor for your child and which ensemble group your child will be participating at the beginning of Term 1.

 

Junior Concert Band

This band is for students with little or no experience who are learning to play an instrument.

Senior Concert Band

The Senior Concert Band is for students with a minimum of one year experience who are learning an instrument.

Beginner Recorder

Beginner Recorder is for students in Years 2-6. Students learn the basics skills of reading music, playing a recorder correctly to make a beautiful sound, following a conductor and playing as an ensemble. A good quality Yamaha recorder may be purchased from the school for $10. Children are required to bring a portfolio style folder for their music and practise their music 3-5 times a week.

Recorder Consort

Recorder Consort is an ensemble for students who have already been a part of the Beginner Recorder Group. Students who show the skills and commitment necessary for a performance ensemble join the Recorder Consort and work towards participation in the annual Festival of Instrumental Music at the Sydney Opera House with students from across the state.

Costs include:

Participation fee: $40

Travel to and from one external rehearsal and concert day: approx. $10

Audience tickets for the Opera House performance: $42 /Adults Concession/ students $35 + transaction fees.

Students are required to attend weekly rehearsals and to practise regularly. Please bring a portfolio style music folder and recorder to every rehearsal. A high level of commitment is required to perform at this prestigious event.

Both Recorder Ensembles perform at assemblies, school functions and The Big Night Out in Term 4.

Beginner String Ensemble

In 2019 there will be a beginner string ensemble led by an external tutor. Kindergarten students will be invited to join this group in Semester 2.

Junior String Ensemble

Students with at least one years experience who meet every Thursday lunchtime. Students will be invited to join this group. 

Senior String Ensemble

A group of students who play the violin and cello meet on a Thursday lunchtime to practice as part of an ensemble group. This group perform every year at the Arts Unit's Festival of Instrumental Music at the Opera House.

Big Night Out

The highlight of the musical year is the Big Night Out. All our ensembles, choirs and selected small groups and soloists perform at this wonderful musical evening to a packed house in the school hall in November.
