Gifted Sportspeople

Gifted and/or Talented Sportspeople

Sport and physical activity is a valued and accepted part of our school's curriculum, contributing to the development of the whole child. It provides a vehicle for social, physical, emotional and moral learning and is an important expression of our culture.

The participation, enjoyment and skill development of our students is the corner-stone of the school sport/ physical activity program. All students take part in sports programs.

Sport and physical activity programs for children from Kindergarten to Year 2 focus on the development of fundamental movement skills. Fundamental movement skills are developed using the Department of Education and Communities resource Get Skilled Get Active. This resource also provides a sequential development program for students through to Year 6.

From Year 5, students also have the opportunity to represent our school at inter-school sports competitions. Selection in these teams is determined through trials. Sports include Soccer, Netball and AFL. As a NSW public school we benefit from the opportunities for shared activities and competitions with other schools, coordinated by the Primary School Sports Association (PSSA). Annandale Public School is a member of the Balmain Zone PSSA. Gifted and talented students are eligible to trial for zone teams for further representative teams.

Students at Annandale Public School also have the opportunity to improve their skills and compete during annual school swimming, athletics and cross-country carnivals. Many of our students go on to compete at zone and regional competitions. Our annual support of Jump Rope for Heart is part of our sporting calendar, promoting a fun approach to exercise throughout the community.

Years 3-6 students also have the opportunity for selection in sporting teams which will participate in gala day carnivals including:  Milo cricket, Rugby League, AFL and Touch Football.
